Cycling in Cambridgeshire
There has been a lot of talk recently about cyclists jumping red lights because of safety .... what a load of bollocks, if you ride around Cambridge in 4 wheels and just sit back and watch, you will see this is not the case. Cyclists do it, because they can and there will be no one to call them to account for their actions. Most cyclists enjoy the fact they can do it and look back and smile when they do it.
I read on a regular basis, poor cyclists -blah blah blah, we're such a vulnerable minority ... so what does the council do ? they put in beautiful cycleways, super smooth ribbons of tarmac that most car drivers are envious, due to paying for roads that are in poor condition. I witnessed last night, a lone cyclist heading out of Cambridge from Fen Ditton, the council have recently made a nice cycleway from Cambridge to Horningsea, this cyclist was oblivious to the fact he was holding traffic up by not using the wonderful ribbon of tarmac especially for him. So if cyclists are worried about safety ( in the press ) why don't they use what has been provided for them to keep them safe ? It's like the guided busway being built, then the special buses using normal roads all the time anyway ?!?!
There seems to be an arrogance with Cambridge cycling, that it is far superior to anything else due to the nature of Cambridge.
Driving around Cambridge on a daily basis, I'm surprised there are not more accidents ! to ride a motorcycle or drive a car you need training first, with a bike, if you can get it to move then that's fine, the road is yours to command.

Ride to Work 2012
We'll be riding to work on June 18th 2012. Last year was possibly the best event yet, leaving from Lazy Dayz Cafe @ Arrington on the A603, straight through the centre of town under Police escort and finishing up at Shire Hall Cambridge.
Lets hope the event can exceed 100+ riders this year and promote motorcycling in Cambridgeshire.
P.s. sad to hear Steve Merrett is leaving the Road Safety Unit.
